Trouble mounts for Tini Tom: After Ansiba, Neena Kurup levels grave allegations
KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has plunged into a fresh controversy as executive committee member and actor Tini Tom faces severe allegations of misconduct, verbal abuse, and communal targeting from fellow female colleagues. Actress Neena Kurup has officially filed a complaint against Tini Tom, alleging that he publicly insulted her using obscene and abusive language during a family gathering organised by the association. Neena’s complaint further states that the actor attempted to physically assault her and issued threats. This development follows closely on the heels of explosive allegations made by actress Ansiba Hassan, who recently resigned from her post as Joint Secretary of the association. Ansiba accused Tini Tom of orchestrating a malicious character assassination campaign against her. She alleged that Tom circulated defamatory rumors regarding her personal life and falsely labeled her a "Jihadi," claiming she attempted to religiously convert individuals, including Tom's driver. According to Ansiba, the friction began in February when she opposed the decision to allow a religious institution to act as the title sponsor for an association event. Despite raising concerns with AMMA President Shwetha Menon and other senior members, Ansiba claims she received no support. She further alleged that she was dragged into a co-star's marital dispute and subjected to three hours of police harassment at the Tripunithura station over a misunderstood text message. While President Shwetha Menon reportedly distanced the association from the matter, Tini Tom allegedly dismissed the issue as "trivial." Ansiba stated that the relentless defamation compelled her to speak out and resign.
Responding to the controversy, Tini Tom categorically denied all accusations, stating he had never made any derogatory or communal remarks. "Many of my closest friends and mentors belong to the Muslim community," Tini said, defending his stance. Addressing Ansiba Hassan’s resignation, Tini clarified that her initial resignation letter in February had been rejected, and when she raised the matter again on May 12, she cited professional commitments as the reason for stepping down, rather than internal conflicts. Tini added that he is unsure if there is an underlying agenda or external influence driving these targeted attacks against him. AMMA leadership has yet to issue an official statement regarding the police complaint filed by Neena Kurup.
