KOCHI: Mohanlal’s Priyadarshan film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham will not release in theatres. It will have an OTT release, the film chamber informed. An agreement could not be reached in the talks held with the theatre owners, said chamber president G Suresh Kumar. The meet called by Minister Saji Cheriyan to find a solution over the dispute in connection with the release of the film was postponed.
The minister intervened after the talks between the representatives of the film chamber and Antony Perumbavoor failed. The theatre owners did not approve the conditions put forward by Antony Perumbavoor over the release of the film in theatres.
The theatre owners had told Antony Perumbavoor that they would make the necessary compromises for the release. The theatre owners agreed to pay the money as deposit. However, Antony Perumbavoor demanded that the amount received from OTT platforms should be needed as minimum guarantee. The theatre owners said they could not afford that much amount. Following that, the talks with the film chamber also failed.
Antony Perumbavoor had a few days back said that they could not wait for the release of the film and are considering to have a OTT release. The theatre owners expressed severe dissatisfaction on it. The theatre owners opened last week after the Covid crisis.
Marakkar is an expensive Malayalam film made in a budget of 100 crore. The film was completed in almost two years. Apart from Mohanlal, the film has Manju Warrier, Arjun Sarja, Prabhu, Keerthy Suresh, Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suhasini, Sunil Shetty, Nedumudi Venu, Faasil and many others.
