HYDERABAD: A youth who killed his mother's sister has been arrested by the police. An unexpected twist and subsequent arrest have taken place in an incident that was thought to be an accident. A youth named Venkatesh (32) has been arrested in the murder case in Siddipet, Telangana. The youth has confessed to the police that he committed the murder inspired by the movie Drishyam.
The youth's aim was to claim the insurance money in the name of his maternal aunt after making it look like she died in a road accident. Siddipet Police Commissioner B Anuradha said that in March this year, Venkatesh had taken out several insurance policies in the name of his maternal aunt Ramavva (50) at the Post Office and State Bank of India.
On the 7th of this month, Venkatesh called Ramavva to go with him to a nearby farm for work. She was hit by a jeep while standing on the side of the road. Later, Venkatesh informed the police about the accident. The police found the number plate of the Thar jeep that hit Ramavva with the help of CCTV footage. During the subsequent investigation, the police found that it was Venkatesh's brother who had rented the jeep.
The police found that this was a planned attempt by the two brothers to steal the insurance money. He was calculating that if Ramavva's death was accidental, he would get Rs 55 lakh as insurance money. The murder was planned and carried out as an easy way to settle his debts.
