MUMBAI: Maharashtra health department has warned that the 'Delta plus' variant of Covid-19 could trigger a third wave of the pandemic in the state. According to the officials, the third wave is likely to hit the state in two to four weeks if the people do not follow Covid guidelines.
The warning issued by the health department stated that the third wave is less likely to affect children. A review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prepare for the third wave of Covid. Health Minister Rajesh Tope and members of the state's Covid-19 force were also present at the meeting.
The health department stated that the delta plus variant of Covid-19 could double the rate of infections during the third wave.
