Three-month-old baby dies after healer pokes her 51 times with hot iron rod

BHOPAL: A three-month old girl baby who was subjected to witchcraft treatment to cure pneumonia has died. She was poked 51 times on the stomach with a hot iron rod as part of treatment. The incident took place in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh.

There are reports that the baby who was severely burned was treated in the hospital for fifteen days. The practice of poking with a hot iron rod to treat pneumonia is common in the tribal-dominated areas. Officials informed that the body has been buried but will be taken put for postmortem.
