Youth shoots lover, then kills self in Kolkata, woman out of danger

KOLKATA: After shooting his girlfriend, a youth committed suicide by shooting himself. The incident happened last evening at a lodge in the Lake Gardens area of Kolkata. The dead has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Shah (27), a resident of Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. His girlfriend Nikku Kumari Dubey (23) is undergoing treatment. It is reported that she has no serious problems.

The two checked in to the lodge in Kolkata at 2 pm yesterday. Shots were heard around 4:30 pm. The staff then saw Nikku running towards the reception, who was shot in the thigh. Reception staff were trying to take the woman to the hospital when they heard another gunshot from the room. When the employees came running, they saw Rakesh lying in a pool of blood.

The police informed that a case has been registered in the incident and further investigation is underway. Doctors said Nikku, who is in the hospital, was shot in her abdomen and thigh.

Police said the two had been together for seven years. The woman wanted to end the relationship. The police said that Rakesh was enraged by this and he tried to convince her but when she refused, he shot at her and then committed suicide.
