Customs bust gold worth Rs 1.5 cr at Nedumbassery; person attempts new method to smuggle gold

NEDUMBASSERY: The Air Intelligence wing of the Customs seized illegal gold worth Rs.1.5 crore from four passengers at Kochi International Airport. All those arrested are passengers of the flight that arrived from Dubai yesterday morning.

1783 grams of gold was recovered from a native of Kozhikode and 1140 grams from a native of Malappuram. 117 grams of gold in paste form was seized from a native of Kasaragod.

200 grams of gold, which was smuggled in powder form in a baseboard box, was seized from another person. This is the first time gold is being smuggled this way. The first three had hidden the gold in the form of a paste in their rectum and under their underwear. A special mask was attached to the underwear to avoid detection. Gold worth Rs 1.5 crore was seized at the airport within 24 hours.
