Five in custody for assaulting DYFI leader in Kozhikode, case against 30

KOZHIKODE: The police have taken five into custody for assaulting a DYFI leader Jishnu Raj (24), a native of Thrikkuttissery, for allegedly destroying the flux boards of SDPI. Muhammed Sali, Muhammed Ijaz, Najarif, Riyaz and Haris of Thiruvod are those held. The police have registered a case against 30 people having a role in the mob attack. The police have also taken a case against Jishnu Raj for having a sword in his hand claimed to have used it to damage the flux boards.

Jishnu Raj, who was brutally thrashed by SDPI activists for nearly two hours was first admitted to Balusseri taluk hospital and then to the medical college hospital. The incident happened Wednesday morning at Paloli Mukku. Jishnu was attacked when he was returning after attending his friend’s birthday party.

Jishnu said that in the beginning there were only a few people but later they called more people to the area. He said they took him to a nearby canal and tried to drown him. They forced him to say that he committed the act as per the instructions of CPM leaders.

They shot a video of him with the sword and circulated. They made him call two of his friends and say that he is short of fuel. They were also trapped in the case, he said.
