Ganja mafia attacks police in capital city, hurls bomb, vandalises jeep, cop sustains injuries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A cop was injured when members of a ganja mafia attacked the police. The Neyyar Dam police in Thiruvananthapuram was attacked early Friday morning at around 3 am. A policeman identified as CPO Tino Joseph was injured. The group hurled petrol bombs at the police and destroyed the jeep completely. Nearby houses also came under attack. Police said the miscreants hid in the forest. A search has been intensified for them.

The incident happened at Vlavatti Nellikunnu colony. The mafia gang has been here for quite some time. Most of them were from outside. The other day, a local youth was beaten by some members of the gang. The person who led this was taken into police custody. Tension was prevailing in the area following the attack. Following this, a patrol team was here. As soon as they saw the police, threw petrol bombs and stones at the jeep and vandalised it. After the attack, they hid in the forest.

The house of Saji, a resident of the area, was attacked for giving information to the police about the ganja mafia. Bikes parked in front of the house was also attacked. A large contingent of police has reached the spot.
