THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A native of Punjab has been arrested in the case of cheating Rs 24 lakh from a woman by offering her a job in Canada. The Kazhakoottam police arrested Gagandeep Singh (39), a native of Parasram National Colony in Punjab.
He and his gang cheated money after advertising on social media offering jobs abroad. The Kazhakoottam police conducted an investigation and arrested the accused on the complaint of a woman from Menamkulam who had been cheated in this way.
The gang gain trust after sending fake qualification certificates to those who contact them for jobs. They then demand money for various reasons like testimonials and offer letters. They send fake emergency appointment letter and other documents in the name of Canada Embassy. This is to gain trust and get the remaining money.
An amount of Rs 24 lakh were cheated from the woman in this way. The police said they will investigate whether more such scams have been committed. The police team comprising Kazhakoottam SHO Praveen, SI Thulasidharan Nair, SCPOs Baiju, Sajad and CPOs Reji and Arun led the investigation and arrest.
