Man sentenced to 23 years in prison for raping 15-year-old girl

NEYTATTINKARA: A man has been sentenced to 23 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 40,000 for abduction and rape of a 15-year-old girl on pretext of love. Thiruppuram native Manoj (30) is the accused. Judge Kavitha Gangadharan of Neyyattinkara fast track POCSO court declared the verdict. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on Anoop who helped the accused and threatened the girl.

The incident related to the case happened in 2015. The accused got in touch with the 15-year-old girl while she was going for tuition. He raped her several times. The girl’s mental health got affected and she left home due to fear. Her father filed a missing complaint and the incident came to light when police found the girl. Special Public Prosecutor Ajith Thankayyaih and Adv. Gopika Gopal appeared for prosecution.
