KOCHI: The Customs Department has nabbed a film producer in connection with the incident in which gold was smuggled using a meat slicing machine. Producer KP Sirajuddin was taken into custody when he appeared for questioning. Sources said that he will be soon arrested. The gold was smuggled using the meat slicer machine that reached the Nedumbassery airport on a cargo flight on April 2. Sirajuddin is the main accused in this case. Three others, including the son of Muslim League leader and Thrikkakkara Municipality vice-chairman Ibrahimkutty, were earlier arrested in connection with the case.
Sirajuddin, who was abroad, was issued two notices by customs to appear for questioning. However, he did not appear for questioning. He was arrested when he reached Kochi after arriving in Chennai on a third notice. 2.23 kg of gold was sent from Dubai to Nedumbassery. 2.23 kg of gold was sent from Dubai to Nedumbassery.
