Youth strangles lover before killing self in capital city

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth committed suicide after strangulating his lover to death. The youth has been identified as Unni (21) of Keezhayikonam and the girl as Sumi (18) of Kallara in the capital city. Both were found lying dead in a rubber plantation near Sumi’s house.

Police said the two were in a relationship for the past three years. Initial reports said Unni committed suicide after strangulating her to death. The incident happened at 9 pm last night.

A fight broke out between the two on Saturday. Following that, she consumed eight tablets for shortness of breath. She was immediately taken to the hospital. On being informed, Unni attempted suicide by slitting his wrist.

The locals had seen Sumi and Unni talking yesterday. They were not seen later. In a search the bodies were found. The signs of a fight between the two were also found in the rubber plantation.

The bodies have been taken to the medical college hospital for post-mortem.
