‘Beat using lathi, felt dizzy and nausea after slapped on face,’ youth’s complaint against police in Kochi

KOCHI: A youth from Kakkanad levelled allegation against the Ernakulam North Police for assaulting him without any reason. Police said the youth identified as Rineesh was taken into custody after seeing him in a suspicious situation.

The youth said that when he was sitting near the North Bridge, the police came besides him and asked him where his house was. When he said that his house is in Kakkanad, they said they wanted to examine his phone. When he refused to give his phone, they wanted to examine him. He said that he had only a headset in his pocket. When he was about to take it out, they beat him using a lathi. Before he could ask why they are attacking him, they slapped him. Soon he felt dizziness and started vomiting.

The police took him to the hospital when Rineesh vomited in the station. He was released by 5 pm. He is undergoing treatment following physical discomfort. Rineesh is an employee of Manpower Supply. Rineesh said that he was waiting to talk to job hunters interested in working in railway stations and other places. He was attacked in between this.

However, there was a secret information about sale of drugs near the North Bridge. The North police said they examined the place following that and that he was taken into custody after finding him in a suspicious manner. Police said they had not attacked him.
