kk

PALAKKAD: After the popular brand of Jawan rum, the state government is launching a new brandy in the market. The government is preparing to bring the 'Malabar Brandy' of Malabar Distilleries to the market before next Onam. The plan is to produce 3.5 lakh cases of liquor per month.

As part of increasing liquor production in the government sector, liquor production will start at Malabar Distilleries in Chittoor in the eastern region. For this, the Chittoor sugar mill, which was closed years ago, will be turned into a distillery. Government approval and tender process for liquor production have been completed. Kerala Police Housing Construction Corporation Limited is responsible for the construction. Jawan Rum, produced by Travancore Sugars and Chemicals Limited, Thiruvalla, is the state government's liquor in the market. Javan Rum is a liquor that continues to be a small relief for the common liquor consumer amid frequent liquor price hikes. Jawan produced by Travancore Sugars and Chemicals Limited is priced at Rs 600 per litre.
