All shutters of Idukki dam opened, Chappathu area flooded; Pampa, Mattupetty dams will also be opened

IDUKKI: As the water inflow increased, all shutters of Idukki dam has been opened. Two more shutters were opened at 3pm. With this, two and a half million cubic feet of water flows out per second. Due to this, Thadiyampadu Chappath has been flooded. People have been evacuated from places where there is a possibility of flood and warning has been issued. People residing on banks of Periyar from Cheruthoni town have been advised to remain vigilant.

The water level in Idukki dam increased due to the increase in the amount of water inflow from the spillway of the Mullaperiyar dam along with the rainfall in the catchment area of ​​the dam. The shutters of Malampuzha Dam in Palakkad were raised to 40 cm. The shutters of Mattupetty Dam and Pamba Dam at Pathanamthitta will be opened later today.

At present, the water level in Mullaperiyar is reported to be 139.15 feet. It is also reported that due to the release of more water, a house in Kadassikadavu near Vallakadavu got flooded. At present 5040 cubic feet of water is flowing into Periyar per second.
