Bridge under construction collapses in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: A bridge under construction collapsed in Kozhikode. Three beams of the bridge under construction connecting Malappuram-Kozhikode districts across Chaliyar collapsed and fell into the river. The incident happened Monday morning at 9 am.

The beams installed to lay the slab on top of the pillars collapsed. No casualty has been reported. The bridge has been under construction here for the last two years. There were heavy rains in the area yesterday. The authorities said they would conduct a detailed inspection of the bridge.

Meantime, in the wake of heavy rains, 14 relief camps have been started in the state. Control rooms functioning 24 hours have been set up in all districts.
