Circle inspector Sudheer suspended as directed by govt in Mofiya suicide case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Circle inspector Sudheer has been suspended from service in the suicide case of Mofiya Parveen, a law student, following domestic harassment. The action by the DGP was following the directive of the government. There will be a departmental probe against the official. Kochi traffic east assistant commissioner is in charge of the departmental probe.

Mofiya's father had spoken to the chief minister Friday morning. The chief minister assured him strict action against the inspector. Soon, DGP’s order came suspending the officer.

An earlier report by the range DIG and DySP asserted that the officer had not made the mistake of imposing further punishment. Following this, Sudheer was transferred to Thiruvananthapuram police headquarters, but protests against the officer's suspension intensified.

The DGP's action was at a time when the strike by the Congress led by Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath, entered the third day at the Aluva police station seeking the suspension of Sudheer. It was alleged that the circle inspector insulted Mofiya at the police station when she went to lodge a sexual harassment complaint. Mofiya, who reached home from here, took the drastic step.

Mofiya in her suicide note had levelled allegations against her husband and his family. She had also accused the circle inspector Sudheer.

Her husband Suhail (27), his mother Rukhiya (55) and his father Yousuf (63) were arrested earlier. They have been remanded. There were strong protests for not taking action against the circle inspector despite their arrest.
