IDUKKI: Protests following the murder of SFI activist Dheeraj at Painavu Government Engineering College led to clashes in several parts of the state. In Malappuram, DYFI activists protested in front of the town hall where a meeting was attended by KPCC president K Sudhakaran. Tensions remain high in the area as Congress workers and DYFI workers positioned themselves on either side.

SFI activists first came here with protests. After a minor altercation, the police intervened and dismissed them. Later, DYFI activists came and chanted provocative slogans against Sudhakaran. With this, the Congress workers also came on the scene with slogans and created tension.

Police intervened and removed two groups of activists from the scene. A police team led by Malappuram DySP is camping at the spot.

In Chavara, a complaint was raised that DYFI activists attacked the vehicle of NK Premachandran MP. It is alleged that DYFI activists who took part in the protest against the Idukki murder tried to wreck the MP's vehicle.

SFI activists protested in Punalur and destroyed Congress' flagpole. Youth Congress activists allegedly hurled stones at the Kerala Bank branch at Ottapalam. The windows of the bank's evening branch office shattered in the incident.
