Colorful kudamattam in Thrissur pooram amid the heavy rain; Fireworks postponed

THRISSUR: As all the Covid restrictions that blocked the celebrations for two years has been lifted, thousands of people flocked to Thekkinkad. Kudamattam, one of the most colorful celebrations of Thrissur Pooram, was held amid the pouring rain. The meeting of the deities and kudamattam which was witnessed by millions of people, began at 5.30 pm. Umbrellas in different forms like goddess, Buddha, Lord Vishnu and many other types were changed by the Paramekkavu Thiruvambadi sides which enhanced the beauty of kudamattam. The occasional heavy rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the thousands who came to see kudamattam.

With the arrival of eight allied poorams, heavy security was put in place at Pooram ground, which became active from 7 am. Police have made special arrangements for women attending the Pooram. A separate, secure space has been set up, it was womens friendly pooram.The Madathilvaravu panchavadyam of Thiruvambadi was led by Kongadu Madhu.At half past two, Peruvanam Kuttan Marar led the Paramekkavu Ilanjithara Melam

Heavy rain: Fireworks postponed

Thiruvambadi Paramekkavu Devaswom officials said that the Pooram fireworks have been postponed due to heavy rain. Organizers are hoping that the fireworks will take place when the weather becomes favourable. The heavy rain started was heavy when the kudamattam reached its final stage yesterday evening. Due to heavy rains during the night, the devaswoms, the district administration and the police held discussions and decided to postpone the fireworks.
