KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has responded to KPCC president Sudhakaran's statement that SFI activist Dheeraj's martyrdom was asked for. Speaking at the CPM Kozhikode District Conference, the Chief Minister asked what is the meaning of the Congress saying that death is being asked for.

"The Congress is ready to say that he asked for his death. Is this how you should react to such things? Dheeraj's death shows that the Congress was also involved in destroying the atmosphere of peace. There was not even a hint of censuring the culprits. Do not think that you can achieve anything through conflict and riots. Strong action will be taken against the culprits. The state should stand by it", he said.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that Dheeraj's murder was planned. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's response rejected the Congress and the police statements that the murder was the result of conflicts at the college. He was speaking to the media after visiting Dheeraj's family.
