Cop who got suspended for stealing mangoes also accused in sexual abuse case

KOTTAYAM: The cop who stole mangoes from a shop in Kanjirapalli has been suspended by DGP. The suspended official is civil police officer Shihab of Idukki AR camp. The police have registered a case against him. Shihab is absconding after the incident.

Shihab, who has a criminal background, was on remand in 2019 in a case where he sexually abused an employee of Kanjirapalli General Hospital by giving false promise of marrying her. The trial is going on in another case registered by the Mundakkayam police against Shihab for threatening and attempting to assault a woman after he got released from jail. Before joining the police force, a case has also been filed against him in 2007 for breaking into a house and attacking a person. Even though many complaints were raised against him for cases like connection with quarry mafias, extorting money from devotees by offering VIP darshan at Sabarimala, collecting money from locals in uniform while off duty, no action was taken due to influence from top level.
