Cyclone Mandous makes landfall, strong rains in coastal areas, red alert in three districts

CHENNAI: Cyclone Mandous made landfall near Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. Places including Chennai ae receiving heavy rains. Meteorologists inform that the cyclone will weaken and become an extreme low pressure in the afternoon. Due to heavy rains, a red alert has been announced in three districts of Tamil Nadu. A red alert has been issued in Chengalpet, Kanchipuram and Villupuram.

The wind is blowing at a speed of 75 kmph in the coastal areas in the north west direction. After Cyclone Mandous formed in the Bay of Bengal, there is a possibility of heavy rains in Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, according to weather experts.

In view of the cyclone, holiday has been declared for educational institutions in six districts- Chennai, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Vizhupuram and Ranipet. District administrations have advised people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places. Meteorologists warn that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala today and tomorrow.
