THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite the surge in Covid cases in the state, the Disaster Management Authority has issued an order permitting Kudumbashree elections. It also announced relaxation for organising public meetings related to the elections. The relaxation will be applicable only for the Kudumbashree elections. The order regarding this was issued at the review meeting of the disaster management authority held on January 10th.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Veena George urged everyone to remain extra cautious as the state reported over 22,000 Covid cases on Monday. "The state has been witnessing a surge in Covid cases since the end of the Christmas and New Year season. The state reported over 5000 Covid cases on January 7. However, the number of cases quadrupled in just 10 days. Everyone must be extremely cautious not to let the Covid cases rise sharply again. Self-protection is paramount," the minister said.

When compared to the last week, the state witnessed an increase of 60,161 new cases this week. The growth rate of new cases has increased by 182 per cent.
