PALAKKAD: A young man, who went to a hotel under the influence of alcohol and smashed a glass with his hand during a dispute with the staff, accidentally cut his nerve and bled to death. The deceased has been identified as Sreejith (25), son of Mani hailing from Kalappakkad in Chematiyapadam in Kodumpu's Kallingal. The incident took place at around 8 pm on Thursday at a restaurant near the Kanjikulam Polytechnic bus stop.

Five friends, including Sreejith, arrived at the hotel around 7.45. The hotel was closed as part of lockdown restrictions. Hotel staff were eating at the adjoining sheet hut. Being a regular customer, Sreejith and his friends were given porotta and fish curry from what was set aside for the staff. He was rushed to the hospital as his arm was bleeding but could not be rescued.

Police led by Kasaba CI NS Rajeev inspected the spot. A case of unnatural death has been registered. The deceased Sreejith was a painting worker. Mother: Saraswathi. Sister: Silja.
