KANNUR: A tanker lorry which lost control overturned on top of the bridge. The accident happened Wednesday early morning at Pazhayangadi in Kannur. The tanker, which was coming from Mangalore to Kozhikode, collided with three vehicles and then overturned. Preliminary conclusion is that there is no gas leakage from the tanker. Following the accident, the police is completely blocking traffic through the Pazhayangadi bridge.

The speeding lorry hit the traveller first. Those in the traveller, natives of Kanhangad, were returning after visiting their relatives in Kozhikode. A major accident was avoided as the traveller moved as close as possible to the edge of the bridge after seeing the speeding lorry.

After hitting the traveller, the lorry stopped after hitting two more cars. Eight in the traveller sustained injuries in the accident. They have been admitted to Pariyaram Medical College. It is reported that their injuries are not serious. The driver of the tanker lorry, Prashant Kumar, a native of Kollam, was also injured. He sought treatment at the medical college.

It is alleged that the driver was drunk. He was taken into police custody. Only after refilling the cooking gas from the lorry, it will be shifted from there. The police informed that the traffic will be restored only after this.
