Flood cess in Kerala to be withdrawn from Sunday, will benefit Onam market

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There will be no flood cess from Sunday. With this, there will be a slight reduction in the prices of all expensive products, including gold, vehicles and home appliances. Traders are hopeful that the reduction will boost the Onam market.

For over a thousand products with GST rates of 12%, 18% and 28%, the cess was one per cent, and a quarter percent for gold and silver. Cess on car, bike, TV, refrigerator, washing machine, mobile phone, cement, paint, gold, silver, landline phone, mobile phone recharge, insurance premium etc. will be withdrawn. The flood cess was imposed on August 1, 2019.
