Four-year-old boy dies of H1N1 in Kochi

KOCHI: A four-year-old boy, who was undergoing treatment for H1N1, died Friday morning. He has been identified as Lione Shibu of Alangad in Ernakulam. He was admitted in the hospital for fever the other day. The hospital authorities informed that he was infected with swine flu.

One more died of swine flu in Malappuram. Saifunisa (47), a native of Ponnani, died of the disease. He was admitted to a private hospital at Kunnamkulam in Thrissur for high fever on July 14. He died while undergoing treatment.

H1N1 is an airborne virus disease. In normal people, symptoms subside within one to two weeks, but pregnant women, mothers within two weeks of giving birth, children under two years of age, elderly, and those with other serious illnesses may die if left untreated. As more cases are being reported, health experts have informed that people should be cautious and seek treatment immediately if they catch fever with cold.

  • Patient should be careful while blowing nose and coughing
  • The disease can be transmitted by sitting close and talking and hugging
  • Wear masks and keep distance.
  • Patients and caretakers should always wash their hands with disinfectants
  • Stay indoors and take complete rest
  • Stay away from school and office
  • Consume nutritious food and drinks
