KOCHI: The Kerala High Court will consider the bail plea of the accused in the gold smuggling case today. Accused including Swapna Suresh and Sarith had approached the high court seeking bail in the NIA case.

The accused claimed that the investigation team was not able to find sufficient evidence for the UAPA to remain in the case and so bail should be granted. However, the investigating officials said gold smuggling comes under the limits of sedition.

The NIA court had earlier denied bail to the accused. Swapna Suresh and Sarith along with others approached the high court questioning the order. The NIA arrested Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair on July 12 in 2020. Sapna was granted bail earlier in the cases registered by the customs and enforcement directorate.
