Gold worth Rs 56 lakh seized from cleaning workers in Thiruvananthapuram Airport

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Gold worth Rs 56.23 lakh were seized from the employees of Air India SATS, ground handling agency at Thiruvananthapuram airport. The gold was seized from their bag when they came out after cleaning the plane. The detainees said the gold was found abandoned in the toilet of the plane.


However, the customs officials said that they were aware of the presence of gold in the toilet and that one of the workers was directly involved in the smuggling. The gold was found during an X-ray inspection of the waste bin found in their hands when they came out of the Air India Express flight that reached on Sunday. The gold was wrapped with black tape. The officials said the workers would be questioned again and their mobile phone calls would be examined.
