Government to seek legal advice in introducing single-duty system in KSRTC; next discussion on August 22

kk

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to seek legal advice in introducing single-duty system in KSRTC as the employees' unions unanimously opposed it in the discussion with the ministers. The legal advice would be sought from Law secretary regarding the duty arrangement prepared by the management under the Kerala Motor Transport Workers Act, 1962. After receiving it, the discussion will be held again on the 22nd. The discussion was held for the last two days under the leadership of Ministers Antony Raju and V Sivankutty.

Employees have to work six days a week on single duty. Eight hours of duty and double pay for overtime. According to the Motor Transport Workers Act 1961 duty time should not exceed 12 hours. But the employees' unions were not ready to accept this. The management started trying to implement single duty as a part of cost reduction.
