Gunmen to be charged with attempted murder in Alappuzha 'rescue operation' case
ALAPPUZHA: Sections, including attempt to murder, may be charged against the former Chief Minister's gunmen in the infamous 'rescue operation' conducted against Youth Congress leaders in Alappuzha. The accused are Anilkumar, Sandeep, Shyju, Vipin and Arun, who were former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's gunmen. The action is in the case of roughing up AD Thomas MLA and Youth Congress leader Ajay Juel Kuriakose, while protesting against the Nava Kerala Yatra.
Based on the visuals and statements, strict sections will be imposed against the accused. The special investigation team headed by SP Shoukathali will also recommend departmental action. It is indicated that the SIT will submit the final report to the DGP today. The anticipatory bail application filed by the first and second accused in the case, Anilkumar and Sandeep, will be considered in the Alappuzha District Sessions Court tomorrow. A.D. Thomas and Ajay Juel, after being taken into police custody, were beaten up by the gunmen without any provocation.
ADGP MR Ajith Kumar is also in trouble after the information surfaced that it was his brain behind making corrections in the case diary to save the accused. The legal advice received by the investigation team is that the ADGP and former DySP of Alappuzha District Crime Branch, Sunil Raj, can be charged with conspiracy and destruction of evidence by collecting the hospital records.
