Heavy rain likely in state for five days, issues thunderstorm warning

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of rain with thundershower at isolated places in the state from today to August 22. The State Disaster Management Authority has advised that precautions should be taken from the time the rain clouds start to be seen and not to refrain from taking such precautions as lightning is not visible.

Avoid standing in open spaces if you see signs of lightning. Windows and doors should be closed. Disconnect domestic electronic appliances. Keep distance from electronic devices.

It is dangerous to sit on the terrace, high altitude places or tree branches during thunderstorms. Kite flying should be avoided.
If the sky is cloudy, don't let children play in open spaces and terraces.
There is no electric current in the body of a person who has been struck by lightning. Such a person should get medical help immediately.

Don't step into a water body while lightning. Those who are on closed vehicle should remain inside it. Should avoid cycle, tractor and motorcycle, states the State Disaster Management Authority in the guidelines.
