Heavy rain likely in state today; Yellow alert in 11 districts, holiday for schools in two districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state on Thursday as well. The meteorological department has forecasted isolated heavy showers in central-northern Kerala. The authorities have issued warnings in coastal and hilly areas.

Yellow alert has been declared in 11 districts namely Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of isolated rains in all the districts of Kerala in the next three hours. Fishermen have also been warned not to venture into the sea.

In the wake of the strengthening monsoon, a holiday has been declared for schools in Idukki and Kannur. The holiday is also applicable for professional colleges in Idukki, said the district collector.
