Heavy rains predicted in state today; yellow alert sounded in nine districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are predicted in many parts of the state today. Central and northern Kerala could experience heavy rains, warned the Meteorological Department.

Yellow alert has been issued in nine districts. Yellow alert has been sounded in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Idukki, Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. Winds are likely to blow at a speed of 55 kmph along the Kerala coast.

The Meteorological Department has warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea till Saturday. Extensive damages have been witnessed in many parts of the state in the rains that have been lashing for the past two days. More than 500 houses have been damaged.
