THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A house will be constructed for the mother of Joy, a sanitation worker, who died while cleaning the Amayizhanjan Canal. The government approved the recommendation of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The district panchayat should find and provide land not less than three cents. The corporation will construct the house to Joy's mother subject to subsidy conditions.

The Kerala government had earlier announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to Joy's family. The amount was sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Joy, a native of Marayamuttom and three other workers went to clean the canal near Thampanoor railway station on July 13. Joy, who went to remove the garbage, went missing in the sudden flow of heavy rain. A search was conducted by the scuba divers, members of the Kerala Fire Force and a robot, but he could not be found.

After the end of 48-hour long search, Joy's body was found from the canal on the Thakaraparambu-Vanchiyoor road. The body was found in a garbage heap. Joy's body was found one and a half kilometers away from where he went missing.
