KANNUR: As counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections is progressing, the Congress is leaping to victory in Kannur, where a tough contest was expected. K Sudhakaran is leading by 34013 votes over M V Jayarajan. Congress was hoping to get a majority in Kerala, but the leaders had doubts about Kannur. It is reported that K Sudhakaran is increasing his lead in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's constituency as well. BJP candidate C Reghunath who was once a close aide of Sudhakaran, was not able to garner much votes.
K Sudhakaran had earlier clarified that there is no doubt about the final result. It is clear from the exact figures that the hilly areas which are the power centers are not weak. This time there will be more lead than last time. Did not get votes from the BJP last time. The BJP workers are angry that the person who came yesterday was given a seat. Will get votes from the CPM. K Sudhakaran had also said that the CPM members themselves are angry with the current administration led by a brute ruler.
M V Jayarajan had said that the LDF's victory was certain for political and developmental reasons. People rallied behind the LDF as it became clear that the Congress could not be trusted. Jayarajan also said that the people will not take exit polls into face value.
