ALUVA: A person who booked an Apple iPhone online got soap and a five rupee coin! However, the lost money was recovered with the intervention of the Rural District Cyber Police.

Thottumukham Nooral Amin, an expatriate, booked an iPhone worth Rs 70,900 on Amazon on October 10 after paying the full amount. When he opened the parcel brought by the delivery boy, there was soap and coin inside the phone cover. The opening of the packet in the presence of the delivery boy was filmed.

The cyber police had registered a case after a complaint was lodged with the district police chief K Karthik. During the police investigation, it was found that the phone with the IMEI number on the cover received by Amin had been in use in Jharkhand since September 25. It was 15 days before Nurul Amin booked the phone. The phone was registered on Apple's site on September 10.

When the police contacted the dealer, he agreed to refund the money. The money was returned to Noorul Amin's account last day. However, the SP said the investigation would continue.

Last month, an engineering college student in Paravur booked a laptop worth Rs 1.5 lakh and got packed newspapers. The Rural District Police also intervened and recovered the money. The investigation is in progress.
