THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George on Tuesday said that the state witnessed a sharp increase in COVID cases in the last week. The minister reminded that everyone should take personal care to avoid a further increase in cases. In one week, there was a 100 percent increase in the number of patients.
The minister said that most of the newly infected patients belong to the 20-40 age group. "The state has reported Delta and Omicron cases. Of these, Omicron is three times more contagious. If the number of cases increases, the hospitals in the state will have limitations in providing facilities. Hence, people should take care," the minister said. The minister added that Omicron clusters have not yet been reported in the state.
"Every district is witnessing an increase in the spread of COVID. More and more health workers are getting infected. Everyone must follow COVID protocol," Veena George said. The Health Minister added that the COVID protocol applies to party conferences as well. The minister said people should avoid unnecessary travel and public meetings.
