Kochi Metro: Pettah-SN Junction reach will be completed by March 2022

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Phase 1A Reach from Pettah to SN Junction of Kochi Metro will be completed by next March.

He was speaking at a review meeting of infrastructure development projects yesterday. "It was supposed to be completed in November this year. It was prolonged by Covid and lockdown. Steps will be taken to expedite the approval of the Central Government for the Kaloor-Kakkanad section. It was sanctioned by the state government in February. Land acquisition will be accelerated", he said.

The Kochi Water Metro project will be intensified considering heritage conservation. The meeting also decided to commission the first phase in August as part of the 100-day program.

The Chief Minister directed to complete the final alignment of the semi high speed ​​railway as soon as possible. "The social impact study of its land acquisition should be expedited. Those concerned should visit the places where permission of the Forest Department is required for the construction of hilly highways and make a design. The DPR should be completed within three months", the CM said.

"The coastal road from Poovar to Manjeswaram will boost tourism. It should be completed within two years", he added. The CM also directed to expedite the work of the National Waterway.

"Canal cleaning should be expedited as part of Kochi Urban Development and Water Transport. Central approval for the Thiruvananthapuram Light Metro project and construction of flyovers should be expedited", he said.

The CM also said that funds would be raised for the Wayanad Tunnel Road project in Rebuild Kerala and the process would be expedited.
