THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Election Commissioner A. Shahjahan announced that ahead of the general elections in local bodies, the draft of the updated voters' list will be published on July 23 and the final list will be published on August 30. The Commissioner was speaking at a meeting of political party representatives held at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram to explain the preparations for the 2025 general elections.
The commission also announced that the first-level checking of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) used for voting in the three-tier panchayats and municipalities will be completed between July 25 and August 25. The commissioner requested the cooperation of all political parties in preparing the voters' list in a flawless manner and completing the fitness check of the EVMs.
Applications and objections regarding the draft list can be submitted online from July 23 to August 7. Those who have completed 18 years of age on or before the eligibility date of January 1, 2025 are eligible to be included in the list.
General elections are being held this year in all local bodies except Mattanur Municipality in Kannur district. The general elections are being held in 941 gram panchayats, 86 municipalities, 6 corporations, 152 block panchayats and 14 district panchayats. The term of Mattanur Municipality will end only on September 10, 2027.
