Man held for hacking wife to death in capital city


NEDUMANGAD: A 38-year-old-woman was hacked to death by her husband at Nedumangad following a family dispute. Sajeev Kumar of Mullasseri hacked his wife Smitha (38) to death around 11 pm Wednesday night. He has been taken into custody. Police said Smitha, an employee of a medical shop in Nedumangad, had a fight with her husband after she came home from the shop at 8 pm on Wednesday.

Sajeev, a carpenter is an alcoholic. He used to come home drunk and harass her cruelly. In between the fight yesterday, she ran from home fearing harassment and returned at 11 pm. In a fit of rage, he hacked her on the neck. He stabbed her on her back when she fell down. She died on the spot itself. Though his mother, brother and other family members were at home, they couldn’t do anything as he is of violent nature. A team led by Nedumangad circle inspector who reached on being informed took him into custody. The couple has two daughters Parvathy and Bhadra. The body has been shifted to the mortuary of the medical college hospital after completing the inquest proceedings.
