THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The private bus owners in the state have decided to go on an indefinite strike demanding an increase in bus fares due to the rising fuel prices. The bus owners are demanding a minimum charge of Rs 12 and a minimum fare of Rs 6 for students. Private bus owners said they will go on an indefinite strike demanding an increase in the fares. As part of this, they informed to suspend services on November 9 and will go on a strike.

The last increase was in March 2018 when diesel was priced at Rs 66 per litre. At present, private bus owners are starting a strike with the non-implementation of the charge hike despite the price of Rs 103 per litre. Meantime, a strike will be staged in KSRTC following salary issue. The distribution of pensions in the corporation is also in crisis due to financial crisis. With this, it is ensured that public transport in the state would move towards a serious crisis in the coming days.
