Nine shutters of Mullaperiyar dam opened; 7793.75 cubic ft of water being released out, alert sounded

IDUKKI: Tamil Nadu has opened nine shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam in the backdrop of rising water levels. With this, nine shutters are currently open. The shutters were gradually opened in the evening as the water level rose. Initially, one shutter was opened. Later, one more shutter was opened and water was released out. However, authorities decided to open three more shutters as the water level did not drop.


The authorities decided to open four more shutters by around 6 pm. 7793.75 cubic ft of water is being released by raising an additional 0.30 m. The current water level of the dam is 141.95 feet. Authorities have issued an alert to people living on both sides of the Periyar river.
