Orange alert sounded in Idukki dam, water level rises to 133 ft in Mullaperiyar

IDUKKI: Orange alert has been sounded in Idukki dam. The water level reached 2396.86 feet at 7 am on Monday morning. Orange alert was sounded in view of this. A red alert will be declared if it reaches 2397.85 feet as per the norms of the Central Water Commission.

The dam holds 92.8 per cent water of its storage capacity. After exceeding the upper rule level of 2398.86 feet, the shutters of the Cheruthoni Dam part of the Idukki Reservoir, will be opened and water will be flowed. The water level rose by five feet in a single day due to heavy rains. The water level on Saturday morning was 2391.12 feet. The maximum storage capacity of the dam is 2403 feet.

The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has reached 133 feet. In one day it rose to four feet. The maximum storage capacity is 142 feet. 6048 cubic feet of water flowed into the dam yesterday.
