Private college student disappears in Malampuzha reservoir: Scuba teams to resume search tomorrow

PALAKKAD: A search operation is underway after a private college student went missing while swimming in the Malampuzha Dam on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:00 PM in the South Malampuzha region. According to initial reports, the victim, a student at a private college in Erattayal, had visited the reservoir with a group of friends. Witnesses stated that the youth disappeared under the water while attempting to swim back to the shore.

Local authorities and the Fire and Rescue Services were alerted immediately after the incident. Rescue teams launched an emergency search operation at the site, though their initial efforts yielded no results.
The search was temporarily suspended late in the evening due to poor visibility and fading light. Officials confirmed that operations will resume early tomorrow morning, with a specialised scuba diving team scheduled to join the search efforts. Authorities have not yet released the identity or further details of the missing student.
