THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in various districts of Kerala for the next five days. Yellow alert has been sounded in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod today. Yellow alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur tomorrow.
Isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. The IMD also stated that there is a possibility of isolated rain with thunderstorms in isolated areas of Kerala today and tomorrow. The IMD has announced that there is a possibility of moderate rain in isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kasaragod in the next three hours.
A warning has also been issued to fishermen for the next four days. Today, the warning is in effect for the south Konkan coast, Goa coast, southwest Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, south Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kanyakumari area. Strong winds gusting to 40 to 50 kmph and at times up to 60 kmph and bad weather are likely in these areas.
