THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stance taken by the governor in the Kannur University appointment is unconstitutional, said CPM leader A K Balan. Nothing illegal was done in the university. The campaign claiming it to be a political appointment is unfortunate, he added.

“Shouldn't jobs be given if leaders’ children are in the merit list? The governor’s approach is not acceptable for the Kerala society. He is saying that all the appointments are nepotistic and politically motivated. He needs to come in terms with the truth that the appointment of governors is politically motivated. Nothing illegal was done in the Kannur University appointment. The governor’s action of freezing the rank list is a denial of the Universities Act and is against natural justice”, said Balan.

Last day, Governor Arif Muhammad Khan had said that Priya Varghese’s appointment is a political one. He also said that only because she is the wife of K K Ragesh, Priya Varghese was able to top the Kannur University Malayalam associate professor rank list despite her lack of qualifications. He also opined that he will examine whether it is a violation of law for the vice chancellor to approach the court.
