Singer Kollam Sarath, artist who imitates Janaki's voice, dies

KOTTAYAM: Singer Kollam Sarath (S R Sarath Chandran Nair) aged 52 died here Monday. He collapsed while singing at the ganamela organised as part of his relative’s wedding. Though he was taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital, his life could not be saved. He was famous for imitating S Janaki's voice.

He is a family member of Vayalazhakath Vadakkethodi near Kollam Kureeppuzha Manalil temple in Kollam. He was a bachelor.

His friends said that he collapsed after a stroke while singing a song from Chanthupottu as per the request of his close relative.

Sarath, a well-known singer from Sariga, Thiruvananthapuram, had amazed the audience by singing in a female voice. He would imitate S Janaki's voice beautifully. He has also worked with actor Suraj Venjaramoodu. Sarath's right arm was lost in a vehicle accident in which Suraj and the team were travelling.
