mullaperiyar

NEW DELHI: The Mullaperiyar case will be heard by the Supreme Court on Saturday. The case will be heard tomorrow at 2 pm. A bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar will consider the case. V Krishnamurthy and NR Elango are part of the team representing Tamil Nadu.

The case is being considered as the 13th item in the third court. Currently, the water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam is rising due to good rainfall in the catchment area. The current water level is above 139 feet. But Tamil Nadu is not carrying as much water as before. Tamil Nadu now carries only half the amount of water as before.

The Collector has issued vigilance instructions to those currently living on the banks of the Periyar. An orange alert was issued in the Idukki dam following water level rise in Mullaperiyar. The decision was made to open the shutters of the dam on Saturday at 4 pm or early morning. The current water level in the dam is 2398.03 feet.
